Kinda doing an art thing that I do not yet know. *profound profound quote about love* chocolate

artist-confessions:

I don’t understand a lot of the thought behind dA artists and other online art communities. Art is a discipline as much as it is a profession and a hobby. If you’re art is shit, it’s shit. Bad art does exist. Just like bad music, bad singing, bad writing exists and its everywhere. Drawing shouldn’t  be protected from judgement and criticism. You aren’t delicate little babies, you can take the judgement, just listen to it, fix whats wrong with your piece, and move on. Endless generic manga girls is shitty art. Inflation porn is shitty art. A thousand anatomically incorrect rainbow wolves is bad art.

To be a “good artist” to me and to most of my teachers, you need to be constantly challenging yourself to grow and get better. You need a firm grasp of human anatomy and figure drawing, analytical and architectural drawing, perspective, sighting, proportions, colour theory, colour mixing, mood, theme, etc. Most artists online are young, inexperienced, and lazy. They draw the same thing over and over and defend everything they do wrong as their “style”. Nobody cares about your style. Style doesn’t mean anything. Every artist is slightly different yes, and you can stylizeyour drawings in many different ways, but telling me you draw eyes too big and hands too small and proportions and perspective incorrectly because its your “style” is narcissistic, lazy navel gazing.

The art communities online are self serving, people are patted on the back and defended for doing the same boring, bad art over and over again. Where is the adventure? Where is the depth? Where is the joy of learning and overcoming your problems and bad habits? This is one of the reasons I won’t join dA or post a lot of my stuff on tumblr.

I’m sorry but this is quite true :\ though it’s not only with online artists, it’s also with many contemporary artists who do “instalations” and “performances” and “modern abstract art” without any context, depth or whatsoever but are highly recognized by the elite of rich people who love “plastic arts”.

Gets me quite mad but I only get to discuss this topic with a few artist friends or colleges of mine because if I take it a little but further there will always be people complaining of how i’m not being fair with certain artists and so on.

There’s this thing called modesty that is very pretty and very few artists have it. They’re either complaining of how *depressing and shitty* their art is, despite getting thousands of comments and reviews, or how *look at me I’ve learned all this by myself and I do it perfectly and there’s no way you can tell me otherwise*.

urgh Balance yourselves. OFc there will always be better art and ofc some artists are still developing but these attitudes bring you nothing but lack of development and evolution. It’s your choice if you prefer not to research anymore but I personally love to see an artists’ evolution and get tired of seeing people that in 7 years haven’t developed a single bit. I’m constantly afraid of staying the same and it gets me forward or at least I hope so.

Anatomic studies :P thought I could share, might be useful for somebody I guess. All the names are in Portuguese though! Sorry about that 3:
sorry if it’s a bit inaccurate but it was hard to draw with such a heavy pen 3: well hope it helps
